Don't ask me how it happened, but ever since I spent more time in the garden, I developed the idea to do a bit more in terms of green witchery or however you want to call it.I have had a little outdoor shelf forever, but due to the lockdown, I have not had the chance to go and get any herbs. So as soon as the garden centres opened, I went to a local one (you know, keep business local!) and bought parsley, chives, marjoram, oregano, rosemary and thyme. Along with the rosemary, parsley and mint that we already had, I am now rather happy with our yard.
Following this, I had a look around the house and felt quite bad about the few indoor plants we had (see the stress on the past tense here). A Dracaena, a rubber fig and an opuntia cactus. All terribly overgrown, and I mean TERRIBLY. The two options where: chuck them into the bin straight away, or separate them and see if they survive.
I went for the separation option.
The Dracaena had grown into three leafy crowns at the end of a rather long ... well stick really, and not only that, they were all bent into one direction only held up by the wall. Gods, I am such a bad plant mam! I cut the leafy crowns off and following some advise from the internet (and you know the internet is always right), I stuck them into water and now hope for the best.
I then moved on to the rubber fig and faced a similar predicament. A long stem, two growth at the bottom and one on the top. Snip, off they came. I even built them a little micro-climate pot using plastic bags. How innovative ... 😁
Let's see how they work out. I think the biggest challenge is the cactus, as I never have even as much as owned a cactus before. Again, the mother beast as I have called the original cactus grew out of proportions and had to go. I separated three little ones, one of them extraordinarily tiny and hope for the best. The mother beast went into the bin, after leaving some memories nowhere else but my left girl. Not nice... not nice at all! 😒
And because I was not busy enough, I also decided to propagate some coriander, chili and lambs lettuce. Wish me luck!
I promised several plants to my sister, so let's hope that they turn out, and that I will eventually develop a green thumb. At this moment in time plants come to me to die and it'd be great if they stopped doing that.
